On an ugly, stormy night before an overflow crowd, paying the equivalent of four cents a ticket, the USMNT secured another three points in an away match on the road to South Africa 2010. Clint Dempsey netted the game winner in the 40" to secure the 1-nil victory for the Yanks just ahead of Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Cuba mainland. The somewhat boring match got interesting in the 86" as half the stadium floodlights went dark drawing shadows across the pitch and mak... Read More

This one is a bit late in coming but that match didn't really inspire now did it? I also had to miss the second half of that sleeper as I headed downtown to the Pearl Jam concert at Verizon Center. As I checked the scoreline on my phone I was comforted by the fact that I did not miss much. So what did I see? A brilliant play-in by Freddy Adu on the Lewis game winner. Well placed and paced. That was about it. Truth be told, I was flipping between Italy/Spain most of the time anyway... Read More
